Exclusive Q&A with Blake Saul

This new single "HATE ME" marks a fresh chapter for you — what does it represent personally or creatively?

Blake: HATE ME represents both closure and new beginnings. This song is about coming to the realization that no matter what you do or who you are to certain people in your life, no matter how good your intentions are, will find a way to hate you.

How would you describe the sound and message of this debut single, and what do you hope fans and listeners take away from it?

Blake: This to me is a little bit of everything I love musically like alternative vibes coming from the acoustic guitars and vocal tone and then more hip hop and pop inspo from the beat. My hope is that through the music and lyrics you can feel the emotion and relate to having someone make you out to be something you’re not.

You've had fans following your journey for a while now. What can they expect from this next era of your music?

Blake: I am so grateful for all the connections I've made with such amazing people over the years and theres one thing everyone should expect from me, a lot of music and a lot of different vibes when it comes to my music. I’m here to create, have fun and grow with all of my friends.

Dropping a song and video at the same time is a bold move. How do the visuals connect with the message of the music?

Blake: I think it’s vital you have a way to “show” people what you put so much time and energy into as an artist. Personally I am very visual so I think its equally as important to have content to chew on while discovering new to you music!

What's something your longtime supporters might be surprised to hear or see from you in this new chapter?

Blake: I think longtime supporters know me too well so I’ll have to keep certain things to myself in order to “surprise” them haha. I think me stepping into the role of singing and finding my own voice is a surprise enough for some. I’m excited to see where it all goes.

What artists, even outside of music, are inspiring you right now?

Blake: Tons of different artists and genres of music inspire me. I’m big into a lot of Alt-pop and hyperpop, Aries, Gunnr, Nate Sib, as well as Juice Wrld, The Kid Laroi and of course heavier music like Kublai Khan, Gideon, Varials, Korn etc

Are there any artists that you'd like to collaborate with in this new era?

Blake: I only want to be collaborative in life and music so yes there are a handful of artist id live to collab with. Blackbear, Jelly Roll, Brakence. Too many names to list!

How do you balance vulnerability with power in your music? This new track feels like it holds both.

Blake: Thank you, HATE ME absolutely holds both vulnerability and power. I think being an artist is vulnerable inherently but when you choose to share with the world a certain power/strength comes with it. It has to. I write music that is true to me, release it and hold no emotional attachment to the outcome. It’s part of the bricks that build my legacy. So I’m always happy to release my music and then focus on doing it again.

Fast forward a year from now — what do you hope you're most proud of when you look back on this release?

Blake: I already know that in a year, I’ll be most proud that I took the leap and went out on my own to release music.

Message to your fans as you embark on this new chapter — what's something you'd like your supporters to know?

Blake: I would love for everyone to know I love and appreciate all of the support you’ve all shown me and I’m grateful that you’re here with me on this journey. I love connecting with people and what a blessing to be able to do that through something I love so much, music.
