Meet a new side of Noah Pope

Allow me to put you on to the multi-talented Noah Pope. Making music full of sweet vocals and lyrics straight from the heart, he’s a name to watch (and add to your playlists). I had the opportunity to ask him a few questions and get an insight into his world of touring, writing, and hobbies outside of music, as well as snap some portraits of him this past November after he opened night three of Paradise Fest in Nashville.

Hi Noah! Thanks so much for taking the time to chat with us. To start off, why don't you tell us a bit about who you are and the music you make?

My name is Noah, I’m a writer and producer based in Brooklyn. I put out a lot of music under my own name. It’s all stuff I self-produce at my studio. I play with a full band live sometimes, which is one of my favorite things to do.

You’ve done quite a bit of touring recently, with a lot of it being supporting other artists as part of their touring band. How do you make sure you’re able to take time to focus on your own music amongst everything else?

It’s tough sometimes to find a good balance. Last year, I toured too much. I was playing for several different artists and juggling a lot of stuff. This year, I’ve thinned my touring schedule down to my own music and one other artist. It’s been much better that way.

While you’re on the road, do you have any habits that make you feel more at home?

Not really, I like how different the lifestyle is on the road, and I try to embrace it. I call my wife every day, and that’s about as close to home as it gets:)

A few months ago, you put a song out titled “Forever”. Can you tell us the story behind that song?

It’s a love song to my wife, Christina. The verses tell little stories from different memories we have together, and the chorus is really just me saying I can’t live without her.

What inspires you musically?

So many things! I love albums and am always on the hunt for my next obsession. I love jamming with new people or old friends. I do a lot of writing and stuff with other artists, and sometimes that can feel really fresh, sometimes it goes horribly, and that’s okay too. I also try to take time away from music, sometimes, the most inspiring things come from the days I’m not thinking about songs.

Recently, you made the move from Nashville to NYC. Has the change of scenery impacted your writing process at all? Has it been challenging to find your footing in a new music scene?

It has been really different in good and bad ways. Nashville is a small city, and everything in music is pretty close-knit. NY feels the opposite. There are so many artists and musicians that it can feel much less connected. I think that’s good for me right now, I’m still only a few years into writing more seriously, and there’s a nice amount of space to explore things I probably wouldn’t have in Nashville.

If your music were a color, what color would it be and why?

Hmmmm, probably green. Because I want it to always feel new and exciting. Like somewhere you can go for a little restart or a new palette.

When you’re not playing music, do you have any fun hobbies that you like to fill your time with?

I love camping, I ride my bike a bunch. I also really like scootering, I did it all growing up and recently got a new scooter:)

Is there anything else the people should know about you/ your music?

I've got a lot of music coming out this year!

Hannah Daniel

Hey, I’m Hannah! I’ve had a love for the arts/music since I was a kid, and if I’m not painting or working on an art project at home I usually can be found at a concert. I developed a passion for music photography because it was a way to combine my love for being creative with my love for live music. There are few things I enjoy more than the feeling of being in a crowd, and being able to capture that feeling through my work (other than maybe getting a coffee). I’m always discovering new artists I love, but some of my favorite include Noah Kahan, Briston Maroney, Hozier, and Caamp.
