156/Silence makes some noise with label signing and new single
As we begin to close out the year Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania band 156/Silence has announced signing with Pure Noise Records. Long time fans of the label, 156/Silence celebrated the news by releasing a new single and music video for "Our Parting Ways". Overall it’s been a busy year for the band, a wide array of tours have gotten them in front of fans from local shows to festivals. Despite some personal challenges the band has been going strong and bringing immense amounts of energy to the stage. While the band has released some collab singles this year with Signs of the Swarm and fallfiftyfeet, this is the first new song from the band since their full-length album 'People Watching' in 2024.

The release of “Our Parting Ways” maintains the odd and haunting energy 156/Silence has had. When asked about the song, they merely shared this cryptic quote:
"Our parting ways will always come together. The spaces left between what was and what is hold a place of their own to be remembered with grace. As the pages decrease in our story, we bleed to gain access to the memories of the path we once shared."
The song itself is a puzzle unsolved. Lyrics honing in on death, loss, and feeling trapped within an undue cage of mourning. Questions are being asked without answers. The looping instrumental at the start almost inspires a Linkin Park type of track behind the clean vocals. Once the screams and instruments come in the entire song takes on a much heavier tone. Though some of the seriousness is cut by the taco bell sound that pops up throughout. The drums beat out a two-step tempo that keeps the song from feeling too calm. The additional choral singing gives that creepy ethereal vibe that matches the lyrics. The way the scream vocals are layered into the song they entirely sound like an internal voice. The way the guitar screeches during certain segments gives a perfect jarring shift that adds to the horror effect. The bass in the song is subtle but present during the heavier breakdown sections.
The music video is equally strange. In the style of classic horror movies (think Blair Witch Project) a romantic camping getaway becomes a scene of terror. The entire thing has a grainy overlay giving it a vintage look. Shot in disjointed clips it is unclear how much time has passed and what exactly has occurred to leave us here. The action scenes are broken up with clips of the band’s performance shot in a way that makes it look lit by flashlights. From the ghost’s appearance it’s hard to decide if they’re being haunted by memories or as a punishment for their own choices.
