Resistor Album "BITE THIS!" Announced with New Single "DEAD SOUL"
New York kings and creators of “knuckle dragging wika wika core”, Resistor, are back at it with their new single “DEAD SOUL”. In their usual door busting fashion, they’ve got an absolute banger, bringing some much needed heat to the frozen east coast. Even more is on the way with the announcement of their new album “BITE THIS!”, out March 27. The nu-metal/hardcore/metalcore blending quartet consisting of Anthony Grambo [vocals], Anthony Conti [guitar], Ian Schneider [bass], Anthony Arce [turntables], and Peter Smith [drums] continue their brutal onslaught of aggressive grooves that offer the perfect soundtrack to getting into a fight.
What hits the best about Resistor is the fact that their profanity laden ignorant style is deeply entwined with their pointed lyricist. The rage in “DEAD SOUL” isn't aimless, it's targeted. The crosshair of this song aimed squarely at the people who doubt their perseverance. It's a spit in the face to people who will talk a big game behind your back, but cower at any kind of confrontation. It's a celebration of the reputation and success they've built as a band. They've reached the point of having an iconic Resistor sound that you can't, well, resist. The breakdown is heavy, the turntables are crisp, the vocals are delivered with guttural charm, the guitar matches that record-scratch style, and the bassline is where that knuckle dragging weight comes from. It's fun music without feeling too gimmicky.
"We feel 'DEAD SOUL' is the perfect introduction to this record," says Schneider. "This has been one of our favorite tracks, from its initial conception to final execution. The themes of Resistor's music have always boiled down to 'Fuck you' and 'DEAD SOUL' is no exception to that central meaning. We're so excited to finally be able to share this song with you all and hope it resonates as strongly with you as it has with us.”
Will it be my favorite song? I don't know. Still unreleased “PETTY FUCK” calls to me on a spiritual level, but “DEAD SOUL” is right at home on my personal bad bitch playlist.

That core Resistor authenticity is even more obvious in the music video. Like a love letter to New York, the band is playing on rooftops, in graffiti laden alleyways, and under train lines with jump cuts of city energy. Considering the amount of exciting touring they've done recently, from the Gathering of the Juggalos to the Inkcarceration pre-show, it's nice to feel like not only have they remembered their roots, but they're proud of the city they came from. It isn't the glamor of live performances, it's straight-up Resistor doing what they do best. That lack of extra nonsense feels true to them, especially in a song where the message is We're here, we built this, and you don't have what it takes to take this from us, because you aren't us.
Does that show of pride mean I'm forgiving them for their upcoming tour with Yosemite In Black not having a New York date? Absolutely not. Their live performances are historically a blast so it'll be a great time for anyone who does get to catch them. The run starts on February 19th, hitting about 10 states across 16 dates and definitely bringing that action every night.
