HOLDING ABSENCE RETURN WITH “WHISPER OF A DREAM” - MARKING DEBUT RELEASE WITH SUMERIAN RECORDS

Holding Absence have officially returned with “Whisper Of A Dream,” marking their first release since 2023’s The Noble Art Of Self-Destruction, and the debut under their new label, Sumerian Records.

The track leans into the polarizing duality of the human experience and its balance between despair and an unwavering desire for healing and happiness. The strain between the two never truly subsides as it can be a constant internal battle that feels both personal yet universally understood.

From the first listen, “Whisper Of A Dream” creates an uneasy and lingering sense of dread that slowly grows as the song progresses. The composition builds in intensity while the lyrics shatter the heaviness with tiny slivers of hope throughout the track. The contrast between the two perfectly captures that internal battle that pushes and pulls between hope and despair.

Featuring a heavy cyberpunk media influence, the band embraced this new era ambitiously and boldly, and aptly ushered in this next chapter with a new mascot, a robot named Y4-BB0, that will dutifully carry the torch as the forthcoming stories unfold.

“'Whisper Of A Dream' is our first song back in what feels like forever,” shared frontman Lucas Woodland. “After releasing our third record, 'The Noble Art Of Self-Destruction', it felt essential to step away for a while - to take stock and rediscover who we are as a band. "Whisper" felt like the perfect song to return with. In many ways, it represents everything Holding Absence has always been, while introducing new elements to our sound and opening the door to what comes next.”

“Lyrically and conceptually, the song draws heavily from cyberpunk media,” Woodland continues. “Contemplation, sentience and dreaming in an ever-evolving world. The music video also introduces our robot mascot “Y4-BB0”, a character you’ll be seeing more of in the coming years."

Hailing from Wales, hardcore standouts Holding Absence continue to solidify their place within the genre with each release. Composed of vocalist Lucas Woodland, guitarist Scott Carey, and bassist Benjamin Elliot, the Welsh trio has evolved exponentially since their inception back in 2015. Renowned for their raw honesty and emotional depth, Holding Absence never strays from delivering the most vulnerable pieces of art a human can experience. Their work captures feelings that often seem impossible to put into words, yet they are instantly understood.

Kristen

Hi! My name is Kristen and I’m a photographer/videographer based out of Milwaukee, WI. I’ve never known life without a camera in my hands and music in my ears. Music is something that I always felt passionate about and fell in love with how music can connect so many people from all different walks of life. At a very young age, I found my mom’s VHS camcorder and filmed anything and everything. Later in life, I became a wedding videographer and continued to do that for 5 years. While doing this helped me hone my craft, I always had a pull in the back of my mind to music photography. That's when I decided to bring my two passions together and got into music photography. I hope to help continue bringing people together and amplifying the voices and stories of all of the people and artists I am inspired by, and those I have yet to find.
