One of the biggest caveats of achieving the dream of musical (or any) stardom is the loss of privacy. The constant attention that extends far past the stage into an artist's personal life is what set off Britney Spears’ iconic meltdown in ‘07. Now Windwaker has teamed up with RinRin to make a haunting track about the cost of fame. “click.” tackles the loss of control when the camera is always on you.

Listen to “click.” here

Instrumentally, “click.” has the iconic Windwaker sound. It smoothly transitions from these fast paced sections into dream-like and expansive choruses. A band perfect for the digital age, Connor Robins shines with the synth-heavy release. That doesn't overshadow the undeniable skill of the rest of the band. Justin Keurntjes provides exciting, chugging riffs that are beautifully matched by Indey Salvestro during the quieter moments. Chris Lalic offers up a high-energy tempo that never loses steam. Then Liam Guinane's vocals soar above it all. Together they created something that sounds fun, modern, and calls the audience to move.

RinRin coming into the track adds a very gen z vibe to “click.” her screams are heartfelt and raw. The bubbly persona seems to fall apart in the wake of her rage. When she switches to clean vocals it's all sugar sweetness. That dynamic range allows her to contrast Liam across the song instead of feeling like a standard feature clip. She also leans heavily into the gen-z vibe capturing a new era of music fans.

Lyrically, the song touches on an issue that has always affected celebrities. However, with the advent of social media it has become a concern for the average person. In a time of increased surveillance, where filming strangers has become “content”, even fans feel like they're constantly being watched. This has led to whole generations who feel this constant need to “perform”. It gets even worse for people like RinRin and Windwaker where one bad day has the potential to be career ending. “click.” shines a harsh light on this always on culture that has developed. The normalization of stalking artists as they try to eat, socialize, and spend time with loved ones never should have happened and Windwaker have taken their stand against it.

Watch the music video for “click.” below;

The music video for “click.” really feeds into that concept of paranoia. Jumping from various camera angles it gives the feeling of being surrounded. Showcasing the band through security camera footage makes it all the more unsettling. Glitched text speeds across the screen as though it's coming from within instead of actually being part of the footage. RinRin's portion of the video being a press conference that rapidly pushes her to break shows the societal pressure stars are put under to be perfect, even if those behind the mic may be looking to create controversy. When the song seems to pull back into vulnerability the view becomes blurred. Suddenly our view is obscured with fog and things are unclear. The imagery sends the perfect message of things not always being the full picture. That behind the screens and out of sight of cameras there can always be more to the story.

Those who want to catch Windwaker in person will be able to see them during the HOUNDS OF THE UNDERGROUND TOUR with If Not For Me and Colorblind. The tour kicks off May 10th in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and ends with Boston, Massachusetts.
