Building further anticipation for the album, Pinkshift also released the music video for their single “Anita Ride.”
The track encapsulates the band’s effort to continue evolving and experimenting with their art by leaning into more metal and hardcore influences. The gritty guitar riffs partnered with the aggressively pounding drums set the stage for vocalist Ashrita Kumar to deliver terrifying screams throughout the track.
Kumar spoke on the track, stating, "It's essentially a release, a reminder, a cathartic moment to give yourself permission to share the weight that you feel in the moments you feel heavy with grief with others and give yourself credit for everything you have done. I felt like this song was a moment where we all very obviously, as a band, shed our old skin. This is the first track you hear [guitarist] Paul [Vallejo] and [drummer] Myron [Houngbedji] singing prominently on a track — we are all intentionally united. I found my roar. What made me more powerful in this moment was leaning into losing control, leaning into trusting my community, and leaning into the uncertainty and chaos that are the transitions of life."
Kumar continues, "The second verse was inspired by Kendrick [Lamar] for me. I wanted to channel the way that he talks to his higher self in his greatest moment of self-doubt, because self-doubt is the enemy of creativity. The feeling that I have less is the enemy of my prosperity.”

About Pinkshift
After its initial inception in 2019 at John Hopkins University, Pinkshift has catapulted themselves into the alternative music scene, receiving multiple nominations for breakthrough artist awards (Best International Breakthrough Band, nominated in 2022, and New Noise Award, nominated in 2022). Since then, the band has made an intense effort to continue their development as artists and learn how to evolve throughout the journey. Drummer Myron Houngbedji explained that their time spent touring over the last few years has introduced them to “bands we wouldn't otherwise have listened to that have weaved their way into our songwriting." Each member brought their own influences to the table when developing Earthkeeper. Guitarist Paul Vallejo spoke on that, saying, “Myron and I got really into Loathe and Knocked Loose. It inspired me to pick up the baritone guitar that I had, playing in lower tunings. I love the direction that the metal scene is going in, and if I could reflect that in any way with respect to the guitar playing that was going on, I'd jump at every opportunity."
