Trivium Releases 'Struck Dead' EP Heralding New Chapter

Trivium the Grammy-nominated powerhouse act from Orlando, Florida has released a three song smash hit of an EP. Their new release, ‘STRUCK DEAD’ is 17-minutes of powerful riffs and impressive storytelling. After a change in their lineup and a tumultuous touring season, the band has made it clear that they are using this new release as their first major step into the future. A sentiment that really drives home the themes of burial and rebirth layered within the EP. The current lineup of vocalist/guitarist Matthew K. Heafy; guitarist Corey Beaulieu; and bassist Paolo Gregoletto a new life has risen within Trivium.

The initial track ‘Bury Me With My Screams’ consists of exciting dramatic riffs, rolling drums, and classic shouted lyrics. The blend of gravelly clean vocals, growled screams, and the echoed effect give an imposing pressure to the lyrics. Weaving a story of someone refusing to be buried, of reaching for even a glimmer of light, creates an anthem of defiance.Coupled with a sensational guitar solo and a breakdown that slams right into you. To complete the song with the sound of a shovel digging into the ground during a storm is the pièce de résistance on an absolute hit.

Their title track ‘Struck Dead (Pain Is Easier To Remember’ has that kind of rolling adventurous melody that pulls you in. Once again, Corey Beaulieu stuns during his solo. The vocals this time around are more divided to give the clean and unclean sections their own lane. This ends up creating a fascinating duality in the tone of the song. By the end the chorus feels more like a chant than a standard song.

Trivium released an accompanying music video to the title track as well. Overall the scenery of the video is pretty simplistic with a dark black atmosphere. This gives the use of flashing lights and motion blur more of an opportunity to shine. The focus remains sternly on the band. Alex Bent is still in attendance for the video and this final EP, leaving fans awed by the sendoff.

The opening of ‘Six Walls Surround Me’ is a complete tone shift from the rest of the EP. With lilting acoustic, harps, a subtle hint of guitar and drums it could be confused for a lullaby. Which is why the drop into harsh voracious screams is nearly terrifying. The use of call and response with the vocals gives way to an epic final ballad. The bass slapping background tones infuse a fun energy into the rhythm. Trivium makes use of every second by creating these blasting highs and fun relaxing lows. Cementing the end of this unbelievable journey.

Trivium is celebrating the release of this EP with their Struck Dead Tour being supported by Heriot and a special appearance by Jinjer.
