WATERPARKS Release Highly Anticipated Single “Red Guitar”
After months of silence and the quiet shelving of their Intellectual Property 2 project, Waterparks are officially back, and they're not easing in gently. Their new single, RED GUITAR, marks a reintroduction, one that's loud, honest, and undeniably Waterparks.
July 18- RED GUITAR is the first release under their new label, BMG, following the band’s split from their previous record deal. It's also their first offering since Intellectual Property, the 2023 album that gained critical acclaim and solidified their place in the alt-rock scene.
This new chapter doesn't shy away from self-awareness. Awsten Knight opens the track by yelling, “What's up, I'm Awsten and I'm f***ing exhausted!” From there, the lyrics dive into the reality of burnout, ambition, and the longing for recognition–delivered with the usual flair of glitchy textures, punchy guitars, and hooks that beg to be screamed at a live show.
Produced by Knight and NCKZN, RED GUITAR leans hard into the band's genre-blending style. It's part rock anthem, part digital meltdown. The chorus explodes with synths and vocal layers, while a rough-edged guitar solo adds to the raw, live-wire energy of the song. It's messy in the most intentional, Waterparks way.
Of course, it wouldn't be a Waterparks release without a little chaos off the mic. In a recent statement, Knight had this to share,
“This is the best song from a band in the last 10 years, ask anyone.”
He went on to tease what's coming next, suggesting that either RED GUITAR or the follow-up will be their biggest hit to date. “It's a plaque attack, baby.”
With RED GUITAR out now and their Reading and Leeds Festival sets right around the corner, all eyes are on what comes next. Whether it's a new album, more singles, or something entirely unexpected (as usual), the “plaque attack” might just be real.
Catch them on tour from 11/06 to 12/18
