Massachusetts-based, genre-blending and melodic powerhouses Wind Walkers have released their new EP I Don’t Belong Here via Fearless Records earlier this October. The new EP marks a bold step for Wind Walkers, as this may just be their most vulnerable, raw, and honest work yet.

In honor of their new EP release, Wind Walkers also released a visualizer for the first EP track, “Hereditary.” The track sets the emotional tone for the project, diving into themes of generational trauma and personal reckoning. The visualizer enhances the song’s intensity with stark imagery and moody tones that reflect its emotional weight. With this release, Wind Walkers continue to push their sound forward while staying deeply connected to their roots.

Serving as the emotional core of the EP, "Hereditary" explores the lasting impact of generational trauma and the way pain is unconsciously passed down. Lyrics such as “The world was just so cruel to you / well, it’s hereditary” and “I watched you shapeshift, changed to your needs” highlight the struggle between personal identity and inherited wounds.

When asked about the inspiration behind “Hereditary,” vocalist Trevor Borg shared,

"This song comes from some of my earliest memories of watching someone I loved change in ways I couldn’t understand. As a kid, you don’t have the power to fix it, you just kind of absorb it. The “shapeshifting” spoken of in the lyrics is about the ways people hide their pain, how they put on new faces to survive, and how that loss of self can be passed down. I wrote it to process how trauma can echo through generations. It’s a very personal song to me, but I think a lot of people know what it’s like to grow up in the shadow of someone else’s suffering and to feel that weight shape who you’ve become."

Borg highlights how this emotional burden doesn’t disappear, but instead reverberates through generations, subtly shaping identities and relationships. With "Hereditary," Wind Walkers deliver a strong revelation on how inherited pain can quietly mold who we become, resonating with anyone who has felt the shadow of another’s suffering fall across their own life.

What really stands out about Wind Walkers to me is how seamlessly they combine emotional depth with infectious energy. Their willingness to be honest and just flat out real about mental health, self-doubt, and heartbreak gives their music weight. But it never feels heavy in a way that drags you down. Instead, it lifts you up. Their transparency becomes a kind of shared strength, a reminder that it's okay to feel messy and complicated, and that you're not alone.
